Working with Shapes

Shapes are the building blocks of your SLD diagrams. They represent equipment, components, and other elements in your industrial system.

Adding Shapes

  1. Click the Shapes dropdown in the toolbar
  2. Browse the grid of available symbols
  3. Click on a symbol to add it to your canvas
  4. The shape appears at a default position on the canvas

Moving Shapes

  • Click and drag any shape to reposition it on the canvas
  • Shapes can be placed anywhere within the canvas boundaries
  • Release the mouse button to drop the shape in its new location

Shape Context Menu

Right-click on any shape to open its context menu with the following options:

Size Controls

  • Zoom X: Adjust the horizontal scale of the shape (0.25x to 4x)
  • Zoom Y: Adjust the vertical scale of the shape (0.25x to 4x)

Use these controls to resize shapes proportionally or stretch them in one direction.

Position Adjustments

  • Translate X: Fine-tune the horizontal offset
  • Translate Y: Fine-tune the vertical offset

These controls allow precise positioning adjustments.

Delete

Click Delete to remove the shape from the canvas.

Available Shape Categories

The shape library includes symbols for various industrial applications:

  • Electrical Components: Transformers, switches, breakers, motors
  • Process Equipment: Pumps, valves, tanks, vessels
  • Instrumentation: Sensors, meters, controllers
  • General Symbols: Arrows, indicators, status markers

Tips for Working with Shapes

  • Alignment: Position related shapes in a logical arrangement that reflects their real-world relationships
  • Sizing: Use consistent zoom levels for similar equipment types
  • Spacing: Leave adequate space between shapes for connection lines and labels
  • Grouping: Place related components near each other to create visual groups

Group Move

When you need to move multiple elements together:

  1. All shapes, lines, text, and images can be moved as a group
  2. Use the pan controls to reposition your entire diagram
  3. Individual elements maintain their relative positions
